Our Story
Cat and Jack was launched in 2016 as an exclusive brand for Target stores. It was designed to fill a gap in the market for quality, affordable kids clothing. The brand is named after Target’s bull terrier mascot Bullseye, with ‘Cat’ referring to the feline-loving kids who wear the clothes and ‘Jack’ referring to the all-American adventurous spirit the clothes evoke.
The idea originated when Target started developing exclusive owned brands to differentiate themselves from competitors. Market research showed parents were looking for better kids basics and everyday styles at inexpensive prices. So Target partnered with apparel vendors to create Cat and Jack, with the goal of becoming the leading kids apparel brand under one roof.
Within a year of its launch, Cat and Jack had become one of the most successful kids clothing brand launches in Target’s history.
